I just tried this on a site and have no complaints. It’s simple to implement, has a good range of options with the built in custom fields and looks really professional.

This plugin is wonderful! Very easy to use, and it pulls the formatting right from your website’s existing CSS. Timeline events are as easy to create as a blog post, and you can even use blog categories to create timelines quickly and painlessly. Also, developer has been very responsive about questions or feedback.
